Pat Simpson, 87, of East Tawas

Patricia “Pat” Ann Simpson, of East Tawas, passed away at her home under the loving care of her family and hospice on Thursday, January 4, 2024, age 87 years. Pat was born in East Tawas to the late Richard and B. Evelyn (Case) Price on December 14, 1936. She graduated from East Tawas High School with the class of 1955. Pat worked for the Department of Social Security in the Saginaw branch office, retiring after many years in her position. She loved being outside and playing golf and watching Detroit Tigers baseball. She also had season tickets to the Saginaw Gears hockey team for years and created wonderful memories while taking her nieces and nephews and making it special with an “overnight” stay. She was in a bowling league for many years. Even though she might be described as quiet, she was a member of the Red Hat Society after she retired. Pat was able to spend the winter months away from the snow and cold, and enjoying sunny warm Arcadia, Florida.

She loved to bake: Cookies, cakes, peanut butter fudge, lemon meringue pie, lemon bars, and cheesy green olive bites at Christmas! Some of her own favorites were a cherry coke, with dark chocolate cherries with a liquid center and dark Chocolate Reese’s cups. She enjoyed sitting on the sun porch reading the paper and welcoming those who would stop by for an impromptu visit (and always offering her cookies and cakes 😊). Each day, Pat would anticipate receiving her mail, treasuring personal cards or letters she would receive.

Since being a child, she attended St. Joseph Catholic Church (Holy Family) and faithfully attended mass weekly. As a member for many years, she helped when there was a need by baking desserts, preparing food dishes, and giving other members rides to church and doctor’s appointments until she could no longer drive herself. She was humble and “just wanted to be helpful…” Her loving Christian heart was selflessly giving to those in need.

Her sweet, kind, and gentle spirit will forever be cherished by everyone who knew and loved her. Pat is survived by her brother-in-law, Don Penman; sister-in-law, Kay Price; five nieces and nephews, Scott (Ann) Penman, Toni (Scott) Lehr, Gordon (Mandy) Penman, Rick Price, and Kim (Todd) Kaems; eight great nieces and nephews, Linda Lehr, Charlotte (Josh) Clark, Rick Penman, Amber (James) Gold, Vincent Penman, Kaylee Kaems, Alex Kaems, Madison Price, and three great-great nieces and nephews William, Evelyn, and Matthew Clark. Pat is preceded in death by her late husband Richard Simpson, her parents; a brother, Bob Price; and a sister, Virginia Penman. Per her wishes cremation has taken place and a funeral mass will be held at a later date at Holy Family Catholic Church in East Tawas. She will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Those wishing to express their condolences through a memorial donation are encouraged to consider a contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association, Holy Family Church, or Compassus Hospice. An online guest registry is available to leave a message of love and support for Pat’s family at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
