Dakota McKuen, age 22

Dakota James McKuen, known to his loved ones as Chewy, was born on October 25, 2001, in Saginaw, MI, and tragically passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024, in Edmore, MI, at the age of 22.

Dakota graduated from Whittemore Prescott High School in 2020 and was a standout athlete who ran track and played football. He was a key member of the state champion track team and held the school record in the 100-yard dash. Dakota was known for his lightning speed and competitive spirit, always ready to challenge others to a foot race.

In his free time, Dakota enjoyed the great outdoors, indulging in activities such as hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, kayaking, floating down the river, and riding mini bikes, 3 wheelers, and dune buggies. He also had a passion for working with Captivating Concrete during the summer.

Dakota’s sense of humor and willingness to help others endeared him to all who knew him. His presence could light up a room, and his absence will be deeply felt by everyone whose lives he touched.

He is survived by his father Edward (Rachel) McKuen, mother Tona Vliet, siblings Kylee Boone, Peyton, Riley, Jalyn, Billie, and Stormy McKuen, grandparents Jim and Ann McKuen, Judy Dice, and Mike and Jeanie Wangler, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also leaves behind his beloved pets Marley and Pluto.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch on Thursday, March 28, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Friday, March 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Mel Killinger will officiate.
