Ernie Long, 83, of Houghton Lake

Ernest C Long, 83, of  Houghton Lake passed away on Sunday March 24, 2024 at McLaren Hospital, Lapeer, with his loving family by his side.

Ernie was born on July 12, 1940 in Van Dyke, Michigan to Bernard and Iona (Pecoy) Long. He grew up in the Warren area graduating from Lincoln High School. Ernie served as a SN (E-3) in the Navy during the Vietnam War.  On October 14, 1989 in Houghton Lake,  Ernie was married to Joan H Horigan.   He worked as a Warehouseman for Ikon Office Solutions in Oregon for many years until he retired and moved to Houghton Lake.  Ernie was an active member of  Houghton Lake VFW Post #4034.

Surviving Mr. Long are his loving wife of 34 years, Joan Long of Houghton Lake; three sons, William Long of NC, Ernest Long of WA, and John Long of AL; three step-sons, Kenneth Horigan of Prudenville, Brian Horigan of SC, and Jeffrey Horigan of Houghton Lake; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Jack Long of Saginaw; many nieces and nephews.  Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Richard Long. 

A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Ernest C. Long will be conducted at a later date. Memorial contributions in memory of Ernie are asked to be directed to Houghton Lake VFW Post #4034. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family. Condolences can be sent to the family online at www.christler-holdship.com
