Dean Crandell, 88, of National City

Dean L. Crandell, age 88, passed away on February 7, 2024, in National City, MI. He was born at home in Prescott, MI on January 15, 1936, to Leslie W. and Melba (Martin) Crandell. After high school Dean joined the United States Army and also served in the National Guard. After 6 years of service in Germany and Flint, he went to work for General Motors. He retired in 1987 as supervisor. He married the love of his life Lola J. Sherwin on May 30, 1959. Dean enjoyed serving in his home church, Hale Baptist Church as treasurer, Sunday school teacher, deacon, as well as maintaining the grounds. He was always happy to visit and help others. Dean put in many hours to become a licensed pilot and even convinced his lovely wife to get her license to fly as well! He enjoyed traveling the world and learning about other cultures, fishing, hunting, as well as just riding around in his boat. He was always tinkering on a motor, whether it was for a car, boat, or lawn mower. He was always passionate about old tractors and cars. Dean is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lola; his children, Alan, Steve (Karen), Les (Lyn), and Lori (Paul); honorary daughter, “Ris” from Indonesia; sisters, Ardith Allan, and Marietta Oleksiak, 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Audrey Bergeron; and great grandson, Matthew Emmett McKinney. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family. Services for Dean will be held at the Hale Baptist Church on Saturday, February 12, 2024. The family will welcome friends for a time of visitation from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am.
