Gary Irwin, 83, of Oscoda

Gary Lee Irwin, 83, of Oscoda, Michigan, passed away on January 11, 2024. He was born on June 4, 1940, in Holly, MI, to the late John L. Irwin and Alice Irwin.

Gary honorably served in the U.S. Air Force from 1958 to 1962, proudly defending his country and embodying the true spirit of patriotism.

Following his military service, Gary dedicated himself to a successful career at AC Sparkplug (later Delphi). He excelled as a die maker, diligently worked in inspection, and eventually rose to head the video department, leaving an indelible mark on his professional endeavors.

In his leisure time, Gary found solace in the simple joys of life. He had an affinity for reading, casting his line while fishing, and exploring the great outdoors through hiking. His earlier endeavors included acting in plays with the Flint Community Players, as well as acting in commercials and two movies. His hobbies brought him much joy in life.

Gary will be remembered as a man with an incredible sense of humor, quick wit, and a kind heart. His presence brightened the lives of those around him, and his laughter was infectious. He touched the lives of many with his genuine kindness and his ability to bring smiles to the faces of others.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Donna L. Irwin of Oscoda, MI, and his children: Daniel G. Irwin (Bill Kupski) of Flat Rock, MI, James M. (Pam) Clute of Oscoda, MI, Jessica (Jim) Clapp of Troupe, TX, and Lisa (Brian) Irish. He was a cherished grandfather to Catherine and Grace Irwin, Alice Smith, Wyatt and Eli Clute. Additionally, Gary is survived by his sister, Jean Irwin.

Gary was preceded in death by his loving father, John L. Irwin, his caring mother, Alice Irwin, his brothers, John L. Irwin and William Irwin, and his sister, Donna Wagner. The memories shared with these dear family members will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who loved him.

A ceremony has been planned for this June at the Great Lakes National Cemetery, where Gary will receive the honors befitting his dedicated service to his country. Following the ceremony, a celebration of his life will be held in Oscoda, Michigan, providing an opportunity for friends and family to gather and pay their respects.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made in Gary’s memory to the Iosco County Humane Society. By supporting this organization, you can help continue Gary’s legacy of compassion for animals, especially his loving companions Max and Tucker, and his commitment to their well-being.

The compassionate professionals at Buresh Funeral Home in Oscoda, MI, have been entrusted with handling the cremation arrangements for Gary. Their expertise and support during this difficult time have provided comfort to the Irwin family.
