George Harrell, 88, of Beaverton

George R Harrell, 88, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023, at MyMichigan-Midlland following a brief illness. He was born in Lansing, Michigan on September 27, 1934, to the late Jacob and Mildred (Bowlin) Harrell. He married Annette Lane on July 15, 1954, in Lansing. They shared nearly 55 years of marriage before being preceded in death by Annette on June 5, 2009. George was a carpenter and his love of wood started at Capital City Lumber and he spent his lifetime building his legacy from churches to the heartfelt gift of a hope chest for his children, grandchildren or anyone that wanted one. He loved his Lord Savior, his family and friends and people in need. He loved to go to food distribution sites to pick up food for friends, his church’s food pantry and families in need. George was a man of unique character with his recognizable mohawk. He loved to sing, whistle and call-in requests to 103 Country. He also enjoyed relieving family and friends of their returnables.

He is survived by his children Rick & Dawn Harrell, Mike Harrell, Lori & Kevin McCormick, Tom & Marilyn Harrell, Jeannie Harrell and daughter-in-law Michelle Thompson, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. George was preceded in death by his wife Annette, sons George Jr. and Wayne, grandson Cristopher and brother Dick.

Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Gladwin Assembly of God Church with Pastor Brad Withrow presiding. Inurnment will be in Billlings Township Cemetary at a later date. Family will greet friends at the church from 12:00 pm until the time of the service. Those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a gift to a local food pantry of your choice in George’s memory.
