Hazel Neva Babcock, age 97, of Roscommon

Hazel Neva Babcock, age 97, of Roscommon, died on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, in Roscommon.

Hazel was born December 13, 1923 in Vermontville, Michigan the daughter of Frank and Ethol (Cotton) King. She married Lloyd Babcock on August 9, 1953.      

Hazel served as sergeant in the Army Air Corps in Reno and Washington, DC. She worked as a teacher at Roscommon schools for over 30 years. Hazel loved to read and read to others; she extended this love as Secretary of the Roscommon County Literacy Council. She was also a member of St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church in Roscommon for over 60 years. Hazel spent her spare time walking, camping at the Soo Locks, bowling, and volunteering for many different organizations.

Hazel will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Linda (Earl) Wykstra, Marianne King, Maeva (Walt) Walters, Dennis (Michelle) Plank, Greg (Patricia) Plank, and Brian (Susan) Plank.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 44 years, Lloyd; siblings Rex (Jan) King, Elene Plank, and Marjorie King; and niece Peggy King.

A gathering will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021 from 4 to 6 PM at Wagner and Walsh Funeral Directors. A funeral will take place at St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 11:00 AM.         

The family prefers memorial contributions be made in Hazel’s name to the Roscommon County Literacy Council, PO Box 320, Roscommon, Michigan 48653.
