Laura Ellen Austin of Higgins Lake

Laura Ellen Austin, 89, of Higgins Lake, passed away July 31, 2017 at her home.
She was born in Kingston, IA on Dec. 23, 1927 to Elmus Earl and Eva Gertrude (Evilsizer) Conn. She moved to Harrison in 1933 and married David L. Austin there on May 13, 1949. The couple moved to Higgins Lake the same year.
Mrs. Austin was a clerk at the Higgins Lake Post Office for 20 years, retiring in 1987 and at the Lyon Twp. branch of the library for 20 years, retiring in 1984.
She enjoyed quilting, reading, knitting, lots of crafts and the casinos.
Surviving are her husband, David; three daughters, Sherry Whitehead of Mason, Mary (Albert) Simon of Higgins Lake and Penny (Doug) Howe of Lansing; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Austin; son-in-law, Walter Whitehead; three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were officiated at Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon by Nancy Bresette.
Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery, Higgins Lake.
Memorial donations may be made to Munson Hospice.
Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon, is serving the family.
