Gerada Van Lunsen of Roscommon

Gerarda Van Lunsen, formerly of Denver, CO, passed away at the Brook of Roscommon on June 6, 2017.

Mrs. VanLunsen was born September 6, 1917, the youngest of fourteen children in Zeist, Holland to Pieter and Theodora (Oremus) deGreeff. She married J. M. ‘Mike’ Van Lunsen on June 22, 1939. She is survived by her four children, Gil (Jacqui) Van Lunsen of Durango, CO, Dorothy (Frank) Yakes of Prudenville, Mineke Grant of Denver, CO and Peter (Cindy) Van Lunsen of Nevada City, CA; nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren and along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 57 years, her grandson, Jared Grant and her thirteen siblings.

Along with her husband and three children, she immigrated to the United State in April 1950, settling first in Lake Wilson, MN, where their fourth child was born, and then moved to Denver, CO. She and Mike established Van Lunsen Construction Company in 1954 which initially specialized in designing and building custom homes in the Denver area and later expanded to include commercial construction. She worked by his side for more than 30 years as his bookkeeper and secretary. Among her most satisfying accomplishments was tutoring her husband and children to speak English and becoming a citizen of the United States in 1959. She enjoyed her flowers, gardening and knitting.

A funeral Mass was held at the Mount Olivet Mortuary on June 13, 2017 in Wheat Ridge, CO followed by Interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

The family extends special thanks to Melissa, Salve, Earlene, Rose, Jamie and the rest of the staff at the Brook, to Roberta and Allison for taking such good care of our mother, and to Andrea, April, Mary and Chaplain Randy of Compassus Hospice.

Memorial donations may be sent to a charity of one’ choosing.

Local arrangements were by Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon.
