Roy Orlando Milnes Jr. of Roscommon

Roy Orlando Milnes, Jr., 87, of Roscommon died June 11, 2017 at Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital.

He was born in Grayling May 2, 1930 to Roy Orlando and Myrle ‘Peg’ (Rodgers) Milnes. He lived in the Roscommon and Grayling area except from 1957 to 1968 when the DNR moved him to East Tawas.

He served in the US Army from 1948 to 1951. He retired from the DNR in 1986 after 35 years as area supervisor. He was affiliated with Roscommon Auto Recyclers since its beginning in 1986.

Mr. Milnes was a member of First Congregational Church, Roscommon and Charles M. Engel VFW Post 4159. He was a founding member of the Michigan Firemen’ Memorial Festival Committee. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood working and playing cards.

Surviving are four children, Betty Binder of Swartz Creek, Roy (Kathy) Milnes, III of Littleton, CO, Bernie (Liz) Milnes of Roscommon and Bonnie Marshall of Prudenville; three step-sons, Larry and Susan Tyler, Steve and Laura Schmid-Tyler and Dave and Tammy Tyler; eight grandchildren, Julie (Ron), Jeanne, Lindsay (Buddy), Jessica, Elise (Kevin), Megan, Matthew and Zac (Chelsea); and 11 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two nieces, Susan (Tom) Clark of Lubock, TX and Shelly (Mike) Wilson of College Station, TX; and many other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by three wives, Lorraine, Marjorie, and JoAnn; son-in-law, Gary Binder; grandson, Billy Ries; and a sister, Jane Rosin.

Visitation is June 15 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon The funeral will be there at 2 p.m. June 16 with Pastor Lonnie Wilkerson officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to Charles M. Engel VFW Post 4159, 219 Terrace, Roscommon MI 48653; or to Michigan Firemen’ Memorial Festival Committee, PO Box 672, Roscommon MI 48653.
