Velda Marie Curns of Houghton Lake

Velda Marie Curns, 86, of Houghton Lake passed away June 15, 2016 at home.

Velda was born on September 12, 1929 in Wayne County to Wilbert and Bessie (Boyd) Hines. She moved with her family to Houghton Lake as a youth and graduated in 1947 from the Houghton Lake Stone School.

Mrs. Curns was a homemaker, and mother, and spent many summers working at Funland in Houghton Lake. She was married in Houghton Lake to Walter Eugene Curns, and was a member of Houghton Lake Lions and Faith Community Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Dawn(Andy) Freshwater of Houghton Lake; four sons, Ron of Houghton Lake; Don of Fife Lake; Eugene (Elain) of Houghton Lake; and Michael of Reed City; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are her brother, Wilbert (Katherine) Hines Jr. of Houghton Lake; and several nieces and nephews. V

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Eugene Curns; brother, Lawrence “Butch” Hines; grandson, Christopher Lawrence Curns; and son, Noel “Buddy” Palmer.

Family graveside services for Velda Marie Curns and interment will be in Roscommon Township Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in memory of Velda are asked to be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
