ROSCOMMON – On Sunday, November 7, 2021, at approximately 5:50 a.m. troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Houghton Lake Post were dispatched to an assault in progress at an address on Houghton Lake Drive in Lake Township. When troopers arrived Houghton Lake EMS had both the victim and suspect loaded in separate ambulances enroute to Grayling Munson Hospital.
The suspect, 22-year-old Emanuel Alexander Rivero from Houghton Lake, and victim, a 56-year-old Houghton Lake man, were interviewed at the hospital. It is alleged Rivero went to victim’s apartment, a family member, to get some pain medication. The victim refused and after two attempts to obtain pain medication, the victim punched Rivero. They began fighting and Rivero struck the victim over the head with an object and choked him. Rivero then left. Troopers recovered a large rock inside the residence with blood on it.
Rivero was arrested after being discharged from the hospital and lodged in the Roscommon County Jail. The victim was treated for facial fractures, damage to the left eye, and multiple contusions to the face. He was later transferred to Munson Medical Center inTraverse City.
Rivero was arraigned on November 9th in the 82nd District Court in Roscommon County on one count Assault with Intent to Murder,and one count Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm less than Murder. His bond was set at $500,000 10% cash surety. His next court appearance is on November 29, 2021.
