Roscommon Village updates

ROSCOMMON- Hiawatha Park plans are moving forward, with hopes for work to begin this spring or early summer. Bids will be entertained soon. Since the project’s start took longer than anticipated, the original bids may no longer be viable. There were six initial bids, four of those from local contractors. It is hoped local contractors will again apply.

The DDA is planning to build a 40’x80′ pavillion at the AuSable River Center. The structure will be built in the style of an Amish barn raising, with local residents invited to bring their hammers to assist in the effort.

A much anticipated Social District is in the planning. The nearest one to Roscommon is in Grayling. Establishments that serve alcohol will have their own emblem on special cups so they are recognizable. Current establishments include Fred’s and Green’s, with the old Tin Fish location to be included in the future. Only those “cups” will be allowed in the District, and may only be refilled by the original establishment. The village council invites anyone with questions to stop in.

Miller and Perialas are excited to have a small business mentorship program, SCORE, beginning. This will be a volunteer program where former business owners can work with individuals going into business, and help them to better succeed. The Small Business Development Center of Saginaw Valley will also be in the county as part of an eleven county program to help small businesses as well.

The village now has a You Tube link for anyone interested in what is happening at the Village, but unable to physically attend the meetings.

Ron Alden, Village Manager was away due to the passisng of his mother.

Two Trustee positions, Clerk, Treasurer and Village President are on the ballot this year. Trustee positions are four year terms, with Clerk, Treasurer and President two year terms each. Village President, Michael Miller has announced he will be seeking re-election.
