RED encourages improvement for Roscommon

ROSCOMMON–The Roscommon Beautification Committee is a part of the Roscommon Economic Development Group (RED) that has been formed to encourage growth and improvement for our area of Northern Michigan. The committee has been involved in the following: Village Clean-Up with the Boy Scout Troop #944 and Roscommon Rotary, planting flowers and new trees, and finding small projects that can be done with the help of the County Trustees.

One of the early goals of the committee is to encourage business owners and organizations in the community to beautify their surroundings and the appearance of their business or service. With this in mind, the committee has developed a recognition program for those businesses that exemplify putting their best foot forward with building improvements, landscaping or other features that add to the beauty of the Village. Those businesses that exemplify pride in their presentation will be awarded with a recognition sticker for their efforts to be displayed on their storefront. This recognition is a golden shamrock and an Irish phrase ‘F+íilte’ (fall-cha) meaning welcome. Welcome to Roscommon.

Our community is asking everyone to take a little time to ‘pick it up, clean it up and spruce it up.’

If our community wants to stand out in front of every other community in Northern Michigan we all need to do just a little bit more.

We will be announcing over 40 recipients who will be receiving the golden shamrock recognition just prior to the last gazebo summer concert. The concert will feature Ray Champion on Wednesday, August 3rd at 7:00pm. We will gather for a short presentation at 6:30 and start at 6:45 at the Gazebo in front of the CRAF Center.

Businesses in Roscommon are reminded of the Fa+ºade Grant program available through the Roscommon Downtown Development Authority (DDA) that offer a reimbursement of 50% up to $5,000 for approve storefront renovations. Applications are available at the Village Hall or by visiting www.roscommondda.com.

Our next Beautification meeting is scheduled for August 10, 12:30 at the new Village Hall; everyone is welcome and bring your own sack lunch.
