Lewiston man arraigned for possession of illicit photos of minor

OSCODA COUNTY, MI – In May of 2021, a trooper from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Alpena Post was dispatched to a residence in Lewiston for a harassment complaint. The complainant alleged her minor daughter had broken up with then 21-year-old Robbie Curtis Michael Smith from Lewiston, and he was harassing her. He was contacting her using various social media applications and threatening to post nude photographs of her if she didn’t get back together with him.

A search warrant was authorized and executed at Smith’s residence. Troopers seized a smart phone belonging to Smith. It was turned over the MSP Computer Crimes Unit for analysis. Numerous sexually explicit images of females were found on the device along with images of the victim.

A felony warrant was authorized by the Oscoda County Prosecutor’s Office. Smith was currently out of state and residing in Aberdeen, Washington. A letter was sent to the Aberdeen Police Department this month indicating Smith would be extradited if arrested. Aberdeen Police went to a residence where Smith was believed to be living and were told he is now back in Michigan. On February 11, 2022, Smith turned himself in at the Oscoda County Sheriff’s Office.

Smith was arraigned last week in the 81st District Court in Oscoda County on one count Possession of Child Sexually Abusive Material and one count Using a Computer to Commit a Crime. He was released on a $25,000 10% cash surety bond.
