MSP investigating fatal crash involving Frederic man

GAYLORD – The Michigan State Police are investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred in Otsego County’s Corwith Township on March 31.

According to MSP statements, the initial investigation revealed that a pick-up truck was traveling westbound on Thumb Lake Road and attempted to pass another vehicle in a double yellow zone. The pick-up truck lost control on the ice-covered roadway and ran off the roadway striking a large tree.

The 37-year-old male passenger of the truck, David Runser, from Frederic, Michigan was pronounced dead at the scene.

 The 27-year old female driver from Frederic, was transported to the hospital in Petoskey for non-life threatening injuries.

The crash is still under investigation. The MSP Gaylord Post was assisted by the Charlevoix County Sheriff’s Department, Otsego County Fire/EMS, and the Otsego County Road Commission.
