First Presbyterian Church of Petoskey receives heritage award

PETOSKEY – On Tuesday, December 7, 2021, First Presbyterian Church of Petoskey received the Architectural Heritage Award at the 30th annual Breakfast for Champions event hosted by the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce.  This award honored the church for its beautification efforts and renovation of the 142-year-old structure on the corner of Division and Mitchell Streets.

First Presbyterian Church of Petoskey has stood as a beacon of light and love to the community at the corner of Division and Mitchell St. since 1878 . During 2020, the congregation came together to provide for extensive renovations including major utility improvements to conserve electricity and water, significant interior renovations with updated meeting rooms and community room space, expanded restroom and kitchen facilities, and a fully renovated lower level. A new entry addition, and a renovated Mitchell St. entrance, create a more inviting, safer, and accessible entrances for the community groups that use the building on a daily basis.

“Throughout the almost 150-year history of church, we have been a vital part of downtown Petoskey,” states Ryan Donahoe, pastor of First Presbyterian. “Each week, we have more than 500 community members come to our church, whether it is for services on Sunday, We are thrilled and excited to be able to welcome even more community functions and events into the facility. Just as previous members thought of us in 2020, we are thinking of all those who will come after us and are planning for the next 150 years.”

First Presbyterian of Petoskey holds Sunday services at 9:45 a.m. each week. To learn more about the church, its outreach and community leadership, visit www.petoskeypres.org, or call (231) 347-4792
