Get hands on with nature

NORTHERN MICHIGAN — It’s time to celebrate biodiversity and get hands-on with nature—the fifth annual Northern Michigan BioBlitz takes place on July 27, 2019 at the Gaylord Community Schools Learning Center / Aspen Park. This family-friendly outdoor event is free to the public, and helps attendees explore nature with activities for kids, guided hikes, opportunities to identify and document plants and animals, and more.

Part festival, part educational and scientific, BioBlitz brings together volunteer professionals, families, students, teachers, and community members of all ages to find and identify as many species of plants, animals, microbes, fungi, and other organisms as possible. Representatives from sponsor organizations will be stationed at various locations at the Gaylord Community Schools Learning Center / Aspen Park to help participants engage in unique nature activities.

This year’s BioBlitz offers family friendly activities, art and nature exploration such as hands-on stations, guided hikes, face painting, archery, Passport to Nature with BioBlitz Citizen Scientist pins, BioDiversity University where visitors can sign up to earn a biodiversity certificate, and so much more.

“BioBlitz is a great summer event to get families outside,” Colby Chilcote, Marketing Director at Huron Pines said. “The exploration stations and guided hikes are easy ways to get hands-on with nature. We hope people will leave with a better understanding of how special the biodiversity of Northern Michigan is and be inspired to keep exploring.”
