Q: What’s your “day job” in 10 words or less?
A: Talk with people, write stories and take photos
Q: What pulled you into the work you do now?
A: I had a creative writing class in high school and have been hooked on this ever since.

Q: Tell us about your family.
A: I’m married with a blended family that includes four children including Autumn, Lee, Elizabeth and Sean, who has passed. Plus six grandchildren.
Q: What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?
A: I had a liver transplant in 2022. My niece donated half of her liver to me. I’m very fortunate.
Q: What’s the most “Northern Michigan/Small-town” moment you’ve had?
A: Was driving around the U.P. on a photo trip by myself a few summers back. Stopped at a little VW Van doubling as a coffee shop. Running it was a young lady from Houghton Lake and I knew her parents.
Q: Coffee or tea? (And where’s your go-to place?)
A: Both. Just depends on the time of day. Favorite stops are Deer Camp Coffee in Mio and Tip of the Mitten in Grayling.
Q: What’s the best piece of advice you were ever given—and by who?
A: My grandfather, Tom Holland. He said, “Read something every night before you go to bed. That way you know for sure you learn something new that day.”
