Deer habitat improvement grants available for landowners

REGION – Landowners with property in Alcona, Alpena, Crawford, Montmorency, Oscoda and Presque Isle counties who want to create deer habitat are invited to apply by Aug. 1 for Michigan Department of Natural Resources funding.

The DNR’s Deer Private Land Assistance Network grant program supports habitat improvement projects on private land in the northern Lower Peninsula. Desired projects should focus on increasing deer harvest near cattle farms or agricultural land.

  • Applications, guidelines and other details are available on the Deer PLAN webpage.
  • Mail applications to Wildlife Division, DNR Gaylord Customer Service Center, 1732 West M-32, Gaylord, MI 49735.
  • Postmark applications by Aug. 1. Successful applicants will be notified by Aug. 31.
  • Habitat improvement projects outside of those six named counties will not be considered.
