Ribbon cutting for a road

By Theresa Ekdom

REGION – West Higgins Lake Drive in Beaver Creek Township, Crawford County, has very few residents living on it, so was low priority for Crawford County Road Commission. However, it serves many Roscommon County residents living on the west side of Higgins Lake and is the road used accessing the North Higgins Lake Boat Wash.

On Aug. 15, Lyon Township and Roscommon County Road Commission (RCRC) received jurisdiction of the road and began improvements to it this fall.

‘About two years ago we started talking about getting jurisdiction,’ Tim O’Rourke, RCRC manager said.

It was recently widened, trenched, and paved; and it awaiting another layer of asphalt. In the mean time, the road is open to traffic and provides a much smoother lane to the west side of the lake as well as to the boat wash.
