GRAYLING – The middle quarters were decisive for the Grayling boys basketball team in the Vikings’ 68-38 victory over visiting East Jordan in a Lake Michigan Conference game on Friday, Feb. 2.
East Jordan stayed with the Vikings (8-5, 5-3 LMC) throughout the first quarter as Grayling managed only a 3-point lead, 10-7 at the end of the first eight minutes of the game. But, the Vikings exploded in the second for a 27-7 advantage and rolled into the half with a 37-14 cushion.
The Vikings outscored East Jordan, 23-11 in the third period to build a 60-25 lead.
“We were fighting some adversity with our leading scorer, Justin Nicholas, out with the flu,” Grayling coach Rich Moffit said. “Our guys played with a lot of hustle and intensity at the defensive end of the court.
“Offensively, we got our transition game going off missed shots and steals, and we did a good job of running the court and scoring in transition. Ryan Anderson played his best game as a Viking.”
Anderson led the Vikings with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists, while Christian Artress contributed 10 points. Following them in scoring were Mitchell Kuziel with nine, Conner Brill who had eight, Trey Moffit and Nick Hunter each tossed in seven, Sam Davis added four and Cam Nova hit a 3-point basket in the fourth period.
