GAYLORD – Reece Ferrigan highlighted the Grayling wrestling team’s performance at the Northern Michigan Championships on Saturday, Jan. 27, in Gaylord with a first place finish in the 215-pound weight division.
Ferrigan won a 9-3 decision over a Gladstone wrestler in the championship match. He hit a career milestone in his first round match of the day, when he pinned a Traverse City West opponent and notched his 150th career win. Ferrigan also recorded a pin against Charlevoix in the semifinal round.
Six other wrestlers finished in the top eight, and the Vikings rode that performance to a seventh place team finish in the 28-team field.
Logan Joseph recorded three wins on the day, including a pin over Gladstone and a 13-3 major decision over Mio, as well as a 5-3 decision over Gladwin in the match to decide third and fourth places.
Tyler Withers brought home a fourth place medal at 189 pounds. He recorded two wins on the day, a 6-2 decision against Benzie Central and another over Roscommon. Fifth places went to Cole Hibbard at 130, Zach Duncan at 103 and Thomas May at 112. Andrew Hopkins was eighth at 125.
