Bucks drop pair

Beal City 62, Roscommon 43

ROSCOMMON – Sophomore Mason Beaver scored a career-high 12 points in a 62-43 loss to Beal City Jan. 27

Sophomore Ben Hamina added 10 points and freshman Sawyer Griffis added five points.

“Our first half was strong as we battled back from a 17-6 deficit to trail 26-24 at the break,” said Bucks’ Coach M.J. Ewald. The third quarter killed us as we couldn’t get stops. Beaver was outstanding in his efforts tonight. He did a good job of scoring off dribble drives and from 3. Hamina also had a solid game overall; Griffis is coming along pretty well. I credit Beal’s defense for taking us out of the second half.”

Houghton Lake 56, Roscommon 44

Senior Joel Ewald paced Roscommon with 28 points and three steals in a 56-44 loss to Houghton Lake Feb. 2.

Junior Ben Hamina added 11 points, three boards and two steals.

“After getting roughed up at Houghton Lake before Christmas, I’m happy with how my kids played tonight,” Ewald said. “We competed hard for four quarters and showed mettle as we were able to answer most of the runs that Houghton Lake went on.

“Houghton Lake’s kids play hard, and we matched their intensity (something that we didn’t do in December). We keep making improvements.”

Sophomores Brock Pelleran and Mason Green battled hard in the post. Alex Thiel (sophomore) made some great hustle plays in the second half.

Next games: @ Lake City (2-8-22) vs. Manton (2-10-22)
