MANISTEE – Au Sable Media Group writer Greg Gielczyk was named to the Manistee Catholic Central Hall of Fame on Saturday, Feb. 4.
Gielczyk was joined in this year’ hall of fame class with Daniel Hesslin, Ann Lind, Christopher Hogan, Holly Swidorski, The Oleson Foundation and the Pepsi Cola Company. Donald Richmond, a 1979 graduate of the school, was the keynote speaker.
Gielczyk was hired to be sports editor at the Manistee News Advocate shortly after graduating from Manistee Catholic Central in 1970. He worked there until 1996 after which he was a freelance sports writer for the Traverse City Record-Eagle before returning to the News Advocate as sports editor again in 1999.
He left the News Advocate for good in 2006. He joined AuSable Media Group in 2014 and covers Roscommon, Houghton Lake, the Charlton Heston Academy, and Grayling
Over the course of a nearly 50-year journalism career, Gielczyk has won several awards from the Michigan Press Association and the Michigan Associated Press.
