HOUGHTON LAKE – Ice Junkies, the largest online ice fishing group on Facebook, with over 68,000 members, held a meet and greet on Houghton Lake Feb. 10. The group has representatives from each state on their team. Michigan representatives Trevor Larson and Einar Hansen hosted the event.
‘They hold Meet and Greets in Wisconsin every year,’ Larson said. ‘We wanted to hold one in Michigan for those who can’t make the one in Wisconsin. Houghton Lake is centralized in the state, so that location was chosen.’
In Wisconsin, the meet and greets are also fundraising opportunities, with the proceeds going to local charities. They hold a fishing contest and raffles. Houghton Lake’ meet and greet is just that – a chance to meet fellow members and fish on the lake.
They held a free raffle, giving away donations from companies like ACE Custom Rods and DJ Custom Rods. 70 people had signed in by noon Saturday. They are looking forward to hosting the event next year, possibly holding a fishing contest at the same time.
