Robert “Bob” Charles Clayton
Age 89, of Tawas City, Michigan died peacefully under the loving care of his family and hospice on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at his home. He was born the son of Charles and Augusta (Joppich) on October 11, 1936 in Bay City, Michigan. Robert married his wife and best friend Dixie Bessey on July 2, 1960 and together they raised three daughters and celebrated 61 beautiful years together until her passing on February 10, 2022.
Robert worked at Tawas Tube as an inspector and served as President of Local Union 6401 United Steel workers of America for 11 years, from there he worked for Prestolite Electric for 20 years and served as a UAW Union Steward.
In his teen years, Robert boxed in the Golden Gloves and after 24 consecutive wins he decided to hang up his boxing gloves. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, camping and going to the casinos.
Robert is survived by his daughters, Julie (Steve) Kennedy, Linda Estrada and Sheri (Todd) Oliver; his grandchildren; Jack, Alyn, Emily, Kathleen, Rebecca, Abigail, Victor, Sarah and Christina; 10 great grandchildren; and his siblings Constance Tomlin and Cathy (Craig) Jantsch. Robert was preceded in death by his wife Dixie and his great grandson Gavin Steed.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery in Tawas City, Michigan at 11:00 AM.
