Greg Brown, 81, of Houghton Lake

Gregory Y. Brown, 81, of Houghton Lake passed away on June 29, 2026 at home with loving family by his side.  

Greg was born on May 20, 1945 in Owosso, Michigan to Donald and Julia (York) Brown. He grew up in the Morrice area, where he graduated from Morrice High School in 1963.  Greg served in the Army during the Vietnam War. On June 30, 1967 Greg was married to Maxine Beatrice Grinnell in Morrice, and Maxine preceded Greg in death in 2015.  He later was married in Caledonia on October 10, 2020 to Charlene Mary Martin.  Greg worked as a plumber for many years, owning and operating Houghton Lake Plumbing. He also worked as Maintenance Supervisor for Houghton Lake Community Schools for 10 years. Greg was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Roscommon.  

Surviving Mr. Brown are his wife, Charlene Mary Brown of Houghton Lake; three daughters, Leslie Noykos of Sweetwater, TN, Autumn (Doug) Pepper of DeWitt, and Amy (Justin) Moberley of Vicksburg; son, Jason (Debra) Brown of Midland, TX; three step sons, Jim (Robert Buller) MacDonald of Ionia, Robert Munger of Alto, and Michael (Candace) MacDonald of FL; step daughter, Shawn (Kelly) Blanton of Grand Rapids; seven grandchildren; brother, Duane (Betty) Brown of Portage, nieces and nephews.  Greg was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Joanne Brown-Fritz. 

Mass of Christian Burial for Gregory York Brown will be conducted at 11:00 am Thursday July 16, 2026 from St. Michael Catholic Church, Roscommon, with Fr. Jerry Hunko officiating. The Holy Rosary will be recited in the sanctuary at 9:15am on Thursday July 16, 2026 with visitation time to follow the Rosary until the time of the Mass at 11:00am.  Graveside Committal Services will be in Bethany Cemetery, Morrice, Michigan at 12:00pm Friday July 17, 2026.  Memorial contributions in memory of Greg are asked to be directed to the  Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
