Janice Eleanor Haas passed away on June 28, 2026, in Standish at Eden Fields, with her daughters by her side. She was born in Sterling MI on October 18, 1938, to Leo and Fannye (Federspiel) Wilson.
After graduating from Sterling High School in 1955, Janice attended Arenac County Normal to earn her teaching certificate. She taught K-4th grade in rural school for two years.
On January 25, 1958, she married Gerald Haas at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Standish. They were blessed with two daughters.
Janice and Gerald were the original owners of The Twisty Freeze in Standish. Her smile always brightened the day for employees and countless ice cream loving customers. She later worked for then retired from the Pinconning Post Office. A talented seamstress, family and friends will forever treasure the quilts, doll clothes, and memory bears she made for them. Janice was active in the church Spirit Guild.
Surviving are her daughters, Carla (David) Sims of Big Rapids and Krystal (Ron) Schnell of Standish, her grandchildren Jessica Sims, Andrea (Keith) Johnson, Michael (Ashley) Sims, Matthew (Jessica) Schnell and Mallory Schnell. She cherished her great-grandchildren Riley Schnell, Logan and Adeline Johnson, and Levi and Brooklyn Sims. Several Nieces and nephews also survived.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Carol Smith, Joy Schmidt, and Lois Buttler, her husband Gerald, and grandson Joshua Schnell.
Visitation for Janice will be held on Wednesday July 1, 2026, at the Lee Ramsay Funeral Home-Standish Chapel. Friends may also visit at the church one hour prior to services. Funeral services will be 11:00am on Thursday July 2, 2026, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Standish.
