Mary Helen Maclean, age 81, of Hale, MI, formerly of Rochester, MI passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 26, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on May 21, 1943 in Flint, MI to the late Evan William and Helen R. Higgins. Mary graduated from Flint Central High School and went on to attend Michigan State University. She married Douglas R. Maclean on April 4, 1964 in Flint, MI after both participated in the Sage Lake Ski Club.
Mary worked as an advanced master gardener, volunteering much of her time sharing her passion of gardening with others. She served as the president of the Women’s Farm & Garden Association in Rochester, MI, as well as serving as the national (honorary) president and national vice president along with being state president for the association. Mary was also the head of volunteers at the Meadow Brook Estate Greenhouse in Rochester.
In her spare time, she enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing bridge. Mary enjoyed being a part of the women’s group at Hale Methodist Church where she was a member.
She is survived by her daughters, Kari Hanley and Kathy Maclean; brother, William Higgins; grandchildren, Matthew (Brandy) Hanley and Michael Hanley and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Maclean; brother, James Higgins and sisters-in-law, Joan Higgins and Kathie Higgins.
The family will welcome friends on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 from 10 AM until the time of service beginning at 1 PM at Hale Methodist Church. Interment will take place in Juniata Township Cemetery in Watrousville, MI. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
