Merlin Griggs, 79, of Oscoda

Merlin Wayne Griggs, age 79, of Oscoda, MI, formerly of Flint, MI passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Ascension St. Joseph Hospital in Tawas City, MI.

He was born on July 16, 1944 in Flint, MI to the late Leonard and Velma (Hartman) Griggs. Merlin graduated from Kearsley High School in Flint, MI. He married the love of his life, Georgia Davis on April 24, 1965 in Flint, MI.  Merlin co-owned and operated Quality Glass and Bike Shop with his brother, Duane for 40 years and also worked for Buick General Motors in Flint for 7 years as well.

He became a member of Greenbush Community Baptist Church in 1969, serving as a Deacon and an Awana commander for many years.  Merlin loved the outdoors and in his spare time, you could find him fishing, camping, gardening or hunting. In 2011, he and Georgia were able to take a trip of a lifetime to Alaska and he got to experience so many of the things he loved doing.

Merlin is survived by his loving wife, Georgia; children, Michael (Bobby) Griggs, George Griggs, John (Grace) Griggs and Adam Griggs; brother, Duane (Shelly) Griggs; grandchildren, Matthew, David, Kaylin, Claire, Emma, Andrew, Oliver, Erik, Melissa, Brandon and Kyle; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.   Merlin will be greatly missed by his family, church family and friends.

The family will welcome friends on Friday, May 31, 2024 from 6 – 8:30 PM at Greenbush Community Baptist Church and again on Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 1 PM until the time of service beginning at 2PM at the church.  Interment will follow the funeral in Mikado Township Cemetery.
