Debra K. Hills, 73, of Hillman died Saturday, May 11, 2024, at home surrounded by family after a brief struggle with cardio-vascular disease. Debra was born on August 2, 1950, in Fairmont, West Virginia to Lena Kuhn Lee and Harry Kuhn.
Debra’s family moved in her childhood to Florida where she graduated from Northeast High School in St. Petersburg.
After graduating from the University of Cincinnati, Debra worked as a registered nurse in maternity before entering the medical insurance industry as a case manager in Atlanta, GA and Dayton, OH. Her two sons, who live in Atlanta, followed their mom into the medical field – Jonathan is a physical therapist, and Andrew is assistant director of the critical care unit at an Atlanta hospital.
On August 24, 2003, Debra married Wes Hills in Dayton. They both retired in 2004 and made their home on Fletcher Pond where they enjoyed fishing and the abundant wildlife. Wes survives her along with son Jonathan (Katherine) Matey and their four children – Juliana, Isabella, Sophia, Gabriella; and son Andrew (Shermia) Matey and their five children – Quaylan, Kyenne, Drew, Aven and Reid. Debra is also survived by her sister, Janet Evans; Wesly’s two sons, their family; numerous nieces and nephews.
Debra was preceded in death by her brother, John Kuhn.
Debra’s family is eternally grateful for the professional and compassionate care she received from Hospice of Michigan.
Cremation arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home. A private celebration of Debra’s life will be held this summer.
