Luz ‘Louie’ Gonzales Jr., 48, of Sterling

Luz “Louie” Gonzales, age 48, passed away on April 20th, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was a beloved father, grandfather, husband, son, brother and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Louie was born on September 15th, 1975, in Tawas, MI. He went on to attend Standish/Sterling high school and later became a carpenter. Throughout his career, he worked on many projects from building custom homes in the mountains of Montana to framing and finishing homes all over Michigan. He used his carpentry skills to help family and friends with whatever they needed whenever they needed it. He was truly a “help someone any chance you get” kind of guy.

But more than anything, Louie was a devoted father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was always there to offer help, advice, and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced. He especially adored his 5 grandchildren, and his grandchildren adored their “papa”.

In his free time, Louie enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to auctions and cheering on the University of Michigan football team. Go blue! His favorite activity was sitting around a campfire with his family.

Louie was preceded in death by his father Luz Gonzales and his stepfather Craig Nickerson. He is survived by his loving wife Amy, his children, Michael, Troy (Sarah), Damian (Kami). His grandchildren Makayla, Connor, Kaydence, Emmett and Kennadi. His Mother Brenda Nickerson, and Siblings Jesse Gonzales (Brandy), Melissa Fuller His Mother-in-law(s) and Father – in- law(s) Thomas (Sheryl) Pietryga and Edwin (Wendy) Dutsky. As well as numerous nieces and nephews. His memory will be cherished by anyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Louie’s family would like to give a special thank you to all of the staff at MediLodge in Sterling. They treated Louie and his family with the utmost compassion and care. We cannot thank them enough for everything they have done.
