Sandra Lange, 87, of Whittemore

Sandra Lee Lange (nee, Williams) passed away peacefully in her family home on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. We find comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering.

Sandra was born October 2, 1936, in Saginaw, Michigan to Jay and Louise Williams (nee Simmons). She grew up in Shields and graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1954. She attended nursing school at Saginaw General Hospital, earning her credentials there as an R.N. She spent her entire career in nursing with more than thirty of those career years at District Health Department # 2. She did home health care and worked immunization clinics, became a supervisor, and retired as Nursing Director for the agency in 1998.

It was on a trip home from clinicals that she met a young Airman on the Greyhound Bus enroute to Saginaw. She married that young Airman, Carl August Lange, Jr. on September 13,1958, in Saginaw, Michigan. They celebrated sixty-five years of marriage this past September. After a brief time in Florida, they moved to the family’s farm in Whittemore, Michigan in 1961.

Sandra has a daughter Carla (Larry) Grezeszak and a son Craig (Theresa) Lange, both of Whittemore. She has four grandchildren: Erin (Joshua) Blakely, Tucker Lange, Emily Lange, and Clayton (Kailey) Lange. She also has one great-grandson Garrett Blakely.

First known as Skipper when she was young, it was the role and handle of Shu that she loved the most. The name was given to her by her oldest grandchild, and she was known as Shu not only to all the grandkids but also their friends.

During her retirement years she enjoyed mowing the lawns for the farm and family, her flower garden and spent many years volunteering in the fifth-grade class of Barb Anderson. She was also an avid knitter and taught 4-H knitting classes for a time.

Sandra is survived by her husband Carl (Auggie or Gus), her two children, four grandchildren, and great grandson. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, brother Warren (who died as a child), her son Carl Jay, and her great -grandson Gunnar Blakely. Also preceding her in death were her special “brothers” Robert and Raymond Barry.

A visitation for Sandra will be held Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the Buresh Funeral Home in Hale, Michigan from 3:00- 8:00 pm. Her funeral service will be Friday, March 15, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Gary Gillings. Interment will be at the All-Saints Cemetery in Whittemore, Michigan immediately following the service.
