Joyce Cordes, 72, of Hillman

Joyce Elaine Cordes, 72, of Hillman passed away peacefully Saturday, March 2, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Joyce Elaine Steinke was born on September 27, 1951, to the late Edwin and Phyllis (Nelson) Steinke. On August 30, 1969, she married Duane Cordes. He preceded her on August 3, 2016. God blessed them with three children, Brad, Michael, and Gina, and four grandchildren, Gracie, Kiryanna, Brady, and Bryce.

Joyce retired from Lafarge-Presque Isle Corporation in 2003 after working there for 33 years. She then got her insurance license in February 2003 and went to work for AFLAC. She helped Duane run the Duane Cordes Agency, Inc.

Over the years, she was active with the Hillman Lionesses, St. John Lutheran Alter Guild, and Hillman Athletic Boosters. She enjoyed going to her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. They enjoyed traveling all over. They traveled to Aruba, Alaska, Canada, the Cayman Islands, Hawaii, Mexico and the Bahamas. They enjoyed their fishing trips to Canada yearly and the trip out west to Yellowstone with her family. She enjoyed reading books and playing cards with family and friends.

Joyce is survived by her children: Brad (fiancée Cindy Barch) Cordes of Hillman, Michael (Sherry Bertsch) Cordes of Watford City, ND, and Gina (Brian) Robertson of Hillman. Two granddaughters, Gracie Cordes, Kiryanna Cordes; two grandsons, Brady Robertson, Bryce Robertson, sister-in-law, Evelyn Steinke; along with many nieces and nephews.

Proceed in death by her sister, Lisa Ann Ferguson; infant nephew, Jesse Chance Ferguson; brothers, Robert Steinke and Gary Steinke.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church – Royston from 2 – 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jason Mandley officiating. Arrangements are being handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
