Howard A. Pawley, age 84, of Oscoda, MI moved on to be with his heavenly family on March 24, 2024. Born on August 5, 1939, to the late Isaac and Cecelia (Tye) Pawley (Duquette), he was one of four siblings. He was born and raised in Manistique, MI. Served active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1964. On June 4, 1960, he married the love of his life, Sharron Graves in Manistique and was then sent to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii for duty.
After his discharge from the Navy in 1964, he worked for GM Automotive in Warren, MI and after ten years and subsequently being laid off, he moved forward to a career in medicine. First obtaining his LPN degree and working in the arena for many years after which he obtained his associate and bachelor’s degrees in nursing, eventually becoming a full RN.
The couple retired and moved to Oscoda in 2005. Both became actively involved with the Oscoda United Methodist Church. It is here that he formed many long time friendships. He and Sharron were co-founders of the Loaves and Fishes Café soup kitchen which is still thriving today. Howard also helped lead the Healing Hearts grief support group at church. Recently he was employed part time by Buresh Funeral Homes. He could always be counted on to lend a hand and share a cheerful smile.
Howard is survived by his sons, Daniel (Marcia) Pawley and Thomas (Ruthanne) Pawley, brothers Harold Pawley and Ronald (Mary Ann) Pawley and his sister Marlene Pawley, eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by many family members and friends but most importantly by his late beloved wife Sharron in 2020, two sons, David Pawley (2008) and Timothy Pawley (2009) and grandson Mark Dedvukaj (2019).
A celebration of life will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at the Oscoda United Methodist Church. Interment will take place in the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.
