William J. Granlund Jr., age 86, of Roscommon, died on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Anthology of Anderson Township, Cincinnati, Ohio.
Bill was born January 25, 1938, in Roscommon, the son of William J., Sr. and Arlythe (Hunter) Granlund.
Bill married Jucinda “Joy” M. Cherven on September 6, 1958, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Roscommon.
Bill graduated from Roscommon High School in 1955 then attended Ferris State College for one
year when he left to work at his father’s clothing store. After a couple of years of working for his father, he started as a production worker at Bear Archery Co. in Grayling. From that humble beginning, Bill worked his way up in the company over the next 28 years to become the President. His career with Bear Archery took him and his family to Gainesville, Florida in 1979. After his retirement he purchased and operated a delivery service. He and his wife Joy moved back to Roscommon in 1999.
Bill enjoyed playing golf, pitching softball in the men’s league and archery tournaments. He also
loved many outdoor activities such as fishing and bow and gun hunting. Bill will be remembered for his work ethic and dedication to his family.
Bill will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years,
Joy; sons: Matthew (Tina) of Bowling Green, KY, and Michael (Angela) of Cincinnati, OH; daughter Michelle (John) Bailey of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren: Gregory (Shea) Granlund, Jennifer (Nathan) Estes, Stephanie (Aaron) Tenfelde, Christopher Bailey, William Granlund, and twins, Frances and Elizabeth Granlund; great-grandchildren: Gerik, Kinsley, and Grayson.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jim Granlund.
Family and friends will gather at 11:00 AM, on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, for a Memorial Mass, with an hour of gathering prior to the Mass, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 104 North Sixth Street, Roscommon, Michigan 48653.
