Wilbert Hines, Jr. Obituary
Longtime firefighter for the Roscommon Township Fire Department Wilbert M. Hines Jr. 92, Houghton Lake, died Jan. 23, 2024, at King Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A service will be held at Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel, Saturday, Jan. 27, from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Visitation to be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow the service, from 3 to 5 p.m., at the Roscommon Township Hall, 8555 Knapp Rd., Houghton Lake.
He was born at Houghton Lake Nov. 4, 1931, to Bessie Violet (Boyd) and Wilbert M. Hines Sr. He and Katherine L. Abling were married Oct. 27, 1951, at Houghton Lake.
He owned Hines Heating & Cooling and Hines & Son Excavating.
A longtime firefighter for the Roscommon Township Fire Department, he had served as chief.
Preceding Mr. Hines are his parents, Bessie and Wilbert M. Hines Sr.; siblings, Lawrence S. Hines and Velda M. Hines; and son-in-law, Lenny Kauffman.
Surviving are his wife; Katherine L. Hines; children, Wilbert M. (Deborah) Hines III; Sally Kauffman; Katherine Kreft and John (Mindy) Hines; and many grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
