Leona Morrison, 93, of Turner

Leona Delores Morrison, age 93 of Turner, MI., passed away on January 22, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Leona was born on September 26, 1930 in Centerline, MI., to the late Felix and Stella (Kraniak) Pokorski. Leona married Peter Joseph Bassi Sr. in 1947. Peter passed away and Leona then married Carl Morrison in 1975. Leona had 11 children.

Leona was a licensed practical nurse (LPN) for many years and was employed at the Tawas Hospital in Tawas, MI. Around her home she enjoyed ceramics, gardening, and cooking. More than anything else she loved being a mother and grandmother.

Leona is survived by her children; Jim (Veronica) Bassi of Detroit, Pauline Ferns of Whittemore, Mary Smith of Indian River, Rose Farley of West Branch, Margie (Dave) Currie of Hale, Ron (Roma) Bassi of Hale, Regina Steinley of Turner, Steve (Michelle) Bassi of Turner, and many grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, a few great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Leona is preceded in death by her husbands, Peter and Carl; son, Peter Bassi Jr.; daughters, Julie Bassi and Karen Farley; son-in-law, Larry “Bubby” Steinley, Joe Smith, Ralph Farley, Richard “Dick” Ferns, and grandson William Slaterline.

Leona’s family will hold 2 days of services. Visitation on Friday (1-26) from 1pm – 8pm at the Buresh Funeral Home in Hale, MI. Visitation on Saturday (1-27) 10am followed by the funeral at 11am. Interment will be at the St. James Cemetery in Whittemore, MI. Family will hold a luncheon following services at the Eagle Point Plaza in Hale.

Memorial contributions can be donated to St. James Catholic Church in Whittemore. An online guest registry is available at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com to share condolence, memories, and photos of Leona.
