Ruth Margaret Martin, 90, of Houghton Lake passed away on Wednesday December 6, 2023 in Marion.
Ruth was born on July 13, 1933 in Midland, Michigan to Glen and Loretta(Pettit) Hooper. She grew up in the Coleman area and graduated from Coleman High School. Ruth served as an Airman Second Class in Ariel Photography in the Air Force during the Korean War. She spent the next 15 years as a Pharmacy Tech at the Midland Hospital. She then moved to the Houghton Lake area where she met Richard P. Martin. On April 21, 1972, Ruth and Dick were married in Houghton Lake. She was very active in her community working for the Houghton Lake Resorter and later at Walmart, being named Associate of the month in May of 1996. Ruth was a member of Houghton Lake Global Methodist Church and active in the United Methodist Women. She was on the Roscommon Township Election Board for 28 years, a member of the Roscommon Township Fire Department Auxiliary, and the American Business Women’s Association. Ruth was active with Tip up Town, including selling TUT Badges for 42 years and serving as Secretary in 1992 and 1993.
Surviving Mrs. Martin are her two daughters, Sue (Ron) Johnson of Tustin, and Terri (Daryle) Laughlin of Marion; two sons, Douglas (Jenni) Smith of AL, and Michael (Sharon) Martin of Iron Mountain; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; son, Ronald R Martin; and two sisters, Juanita Fiting, and Connie Hadley.
Funeral Services for Ruth Margaret Martin will be conducted at 12:00pm Monday December 11, 2023 from Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel with Rev. Kevin Harbin officiating. Interment will be in Roscommon Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday December 11, 2023 at Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel from 11:00am until the time of the service at 12:00pm.
