Frances Helen (Cherven) Diss, age 96, lifelong native Roscommon resident, died on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Munson Medical Center in Grayling.
Frances was born on December 3, 1927 in Roscommon, MI, the daughter of Andrew and Justine (Glusak) Cherven. She married Dorian “Skip” Diss on September 27, 1947 at St. Michael Catholic Church. They enjoyed 51 years together until his passing on April 26, 1999.
Frances was a loving homemaker, raising six children. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, the CCW, and the “Ritzy Reds”. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, and baking.
Frances will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Steven Diss of St. Helen, Ann Legg of Roscommon, Jane (Randy) Varcoe of West Bloomfield, James (Anne) Diss of Roscommon, Laura Diss (Kurk Queener) of Attica and Jerry (Kelly) Diss of Traverse City. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
Her friends and family will gather at the Wagner and Walsh Funeral Directors Chapel on Friday, December 29th at 6:30 pm with a rosary offered at 7:00 pm. Visitation will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church on Saturday beginning at 9:00 am with a funeral mass offered at 10:00 am, Fr. Jerry Hunko officiating. Burial will be held in the spring at Pioneer Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions to be made in Frances’ name to CCW at St. Michael Catholic Church.
