Joan Melling, 80, of Fraser

Joan Melling, age 80, of Fraser, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, in Grayling, Michigan, in the presence and comfort of her family.

Joan was born September 26, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of John and Mary (Scibor) Winiarski.

Throughout her life, Joan held several jobs, but the most important job to her was being a wife, Mom, and Nana. She enjoyed many things in life. She loved taking long peaceful car rides. She enjoyed gardening and reading. She loved dogs, especially “Gretchen,” “Abby,” and “Clark.” Her family will always remember her wonderful ability to cook and feed everyone. No one will ever forget her abundant and delicious holiday meals.

Joan will be greatly missed by family and friends and will be thought of daily. She is survived by her children: Edward Melling of Roscommon, Michigan, Steven (Simmona Tsai) Melling of Fraser, Michigan, Brian (Joyce) Melling of Lenox, Michigan; granddaughter, Jane; brothers: John (Sheila) Winarski and Tom (Dottie) Winiarski; dear family friend, Christine Chubenko; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward David Melling; and her sister, Marian.

Joan’s family has chosen to remember her privately at this time.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wagner and Walsh Funeral Directors, Roscommon.
