Darlene Adele Holland, age 78, of Au Gres, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 1, 2023, in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Darlene was born in Au Gres, Michigan, on September 28, 1945, to the late Peter and Ruth Stanley. Darlene grew up in Au Gres and was a proud graduate of the Au Gres Sims High School Class of 1963. After high school she attended beauty school in Bay City, Michigan, where she learned to master the art of cutting hair. Following school, Darlene went on to work at Jane’s Hair Salon until 1968. In November of 1967, she married the love of her life, Theron (Pat) Holland at St. Mark Catholic Church in Au Gres. The two went on to have two children, and spent the next 52 years together happily married. Darlene began to spend a lot of time raising her family at home, and then joined her husband working for several years at the Au Gres IGA until their retirement in 1997. She belonged to many clubs or groups which included the St. Mark Catholic Church Choir and Altar Society, and the K of C Ladies Auxiliary. Some of Darlene’s favorite hobbies consisted of bowling, cooking, boating, fishing, traveling around the world with her husband, doing jigsaw puzzles, and most importantly spending quality time with her family. Darlene was a very loving, hardworking, and caring woman, and her lifelong presence in the Au Gres community will be missed dearly.
Darlene is survived by her daughter, Tracey (Scott) Sandel; brothers, Dennis (Joan) Stanley and Mike (Shannon) Stanley; sister, Patricia (Delbert Steele) Stanley; grandchildren, Kyle Sandel and Cass Sandel; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Darlene is preceded in death by her husband, Theron (Pat) Holland; son, Troy Holland; and her brother, Robert Stanley.
There will be a visitation period held for Darlene at Buresh Funeral Homes in Au Gres on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Darlene’s funeral mass will take place on Thursday, October 5th, 2023, at St Mark Catholic Church in Au Gres at 11:00 AM. The family will welcome guests at 10:00 AM.
