Betty Kingsbury, 93, of Tawas

Betty Lou (Pennington) Kingsbury

Betty passed away at home with her loving family by her side on August 30, 2023. She was born in Clio, Michigan on August 18, 1930 to Walter Pennington and Hazel Moshier Pennington. Graduating from Clio High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Richard Kingsbury, on February 12, 1949 at Wesley Methodist Church in Clio. They raised three children and retired to the Tawas’s in 1984, spending summers here and winters in Florida.

She loved to line dance, knit and crochet, spend time with her family, go camping and travel with her husband. Especially cruising the Bahamas and along the coast of Mexico, Panama and Alaska. Genealogy was a real interest and resulted in a trip to the British Isles to find their roots for both she and Richard’s families. Reading was a lifelong love and she was a member of the Tawas City Library Friends and also their Book Club.

Surviving are daughter, Sue Kingsbury of Tawas City, son David (Rita) Kingsbury of Gladwin, grandchildren Rachel (Mark) Butler of Camden, MI, Joe (Lisa) Francisco of Beverly Hills, MI, and their children Lauren and Andrew Butler and Colin and Allie Francisco; sister Kay (Alan) Springgay of South Lyon, brothers Tom (Joyce) Pennington of Holland, Rev. Jasper (Carole) Pennington of Ypsilanti, and Jim (Jo) Pennington of Birch Run. Many loved nieces and nephews, special friends Connie Schofield of Birch Run and Carol Hallman of Clio; The Friends of the Tawas City Library and the “Bookies”.

Preceding her in death were husband Richard and daughter Barbara Ann Kingsbury, her parents Walter and Hazel Pennington.

As she wished, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Her Life will take place at a later time.
