Dick Smith, 84, of Beaverton

Guy Richard (Dick) Smith left this firing line Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at his home in Beaverton. He was born to Guy and Marjorie Ellen (Robinson) Smith in Bay City on May 24, 1939. He married Sharron Post on April 7, 1962. They celebrated 61 plus years of marriage. He was a founding member of the Tobacco River Muzzle Loading Gun Club, and of the Michigan State Muzzle Loading Association. He and Sharron spent years traveling and shooting throughout Michigan and the U.S. They had visited all of the 48 contiguous states.

He was an over the road truck driver for 27 years employed by Kal Plastics. Then he became a bus driver for Beaverton Schools. Where he also became bus supervisor to finish out his driving career. He spent 27 years as the Chief Range and Safety Officer for the National Muzzle Loading Riffle Association. He was inducted into their Black Powder Hall of Fame in 2015. He was a life member of the NMLRA, number 45 of the 1 of 1,000, and the NRA.

He is survived by his wife: Sharron Smith; his daughter: Cari Jefferson; son: Guy D. (Kelly) Smith; grandchildren: Taylor Eaton, Michael (Anna ) Jefferson, Guy Paul Smith (Ashton Snyder), Ellen Jefferson and Kayla (Sean) England; great-grandchildren: Kaydence, Marley, Lennon, Liam, Maddilyn, Myles, Maisyn, McCoy, and one due in October; along with his nephews: Tom Smith and Niece Sheila Smith.

He is proceeded in death by his parents; brother: Tom Smith; sister: Virginia Dice and nephew: Allen Dice and Audley Dice.

Tentative Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023. Full details will be posted at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home. www.hallkokotovichfuneralhome.com
