Maria C. McNally, age 90, of Jacksonville, FL, formerly of Oscoda, MI passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Jacksonville, FL, where she resided with her daughter, Ana.
She was born on May 17, 1932 in Jerez, Spain to the late Francisco and Ana Bermudez-Velasco. Maria moved to the United States when she was 26 years old and on May 25, 1961, she married the love of her life, Howard McNally. They moved to Oscoda in 1963 and it was in Oscoda that she developed so many roots in the community. She became a member of the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion, International Club and Hope St. Johns Episcopal Church, where she made so many wonderful friendships throughout the years.
Maria was a loving, attentive mother who took pride in raising her 2 children. She was a caretaker by nature, always looking for ways to help those in need and was an example for her family of what selflessness truly looks like. Maria had a smile that was genuine and you never left her presence not feeling loved and comforted. Over the years, she had many hobbies and interests. She was a creative spirit, who loved to knit and sew. She was an adventurer at heart, never turning an opportunity to travel down, but most importantly, she was a bright light in this world and it’s her love and light that will live on in those she leaves behind to shine.
Maria is survived by her loving children, Edward McNally and Ana McNally; sisters, Ana Bermudez-Velasco, Josefa Bermudez-Velasco, Francisca Bermudez-Velasco and many beloved nieces and nephews, both in Spain and the United States. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard McNally on April 4, 1983 and her brothers, Francisco, Emiliano and Antonio Bermudez-Velasco.
