Stephen Baranyai, Sr., 94, of Prescott

Stephen G. Baranyai, Sr., passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Highland, MI on March 2, 2023.

He was born on August 11, 1928, to Frank and Elizabeth (Abraham) Baranyai in Detroit, MI.  He married the love of his life, Anna Rose “Nancy” Fogel on June 25, 1955, in Detroit, MI.  They began their life together in Detroit, MI.  Stephen built a new residence in Farmington, MI and the family moved into this home in 1964.  Finally settling in Prescott, MI in 1996.

Stephen worked as a commercial plumber for J.F. Cavanaugh, Bass & Co., and Griffin Brothers for 41 years until retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Plumbers Local Union 98 and the Knights of Columbus – Robert Jones & Standish.   Stephen enjoyed playing cards, boating and puzzles.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years; children, Stephen G. (Paige) Baranyai, Jr. of Auburn Hills, MI, Denise M. Gibb of Commerce Township, MI, Margaret A. Baranyai of Highland, MI, Teresa E. Bell of Warren, MI, Barbara J. (Chris) Curtis of Brighton, MI, Geralynn M. (Mike Ruland) Morgan of Port Orange, FL, Christopher T. (Donna) Baranyai of Hillman, MI, Judith E. Pitcel of Casco, MI, Daniel P. (Heather) Baranyai of South Lyon, MI; 28 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; sister in law, Lorraine Baranyai; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by; brothers, Frank Baranyai and William Baranyai; sister, Irene Darocz, son in law, Derek Gibb; grandchildren, Kyle Gibb, April Braman, Jared Morgan, and Vera Pitcel.

The family will welcome friends for a time of visitation on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, beginning at 3:00 pm at the Buresh Funeral Home in Prescott, MI.  A rosary will be prayed at 6:00pm.  There will be an additional time of visitation on Thursday March 9, 2023 at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Prescott, MI beginning at 10:00 am and concluded at the time of mass at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Richland Township Cemetery.
