William ‘Marlin’ Shull, 86, of Houghton Lake

William “Marlin” Shull, age 86, of Houghton Lake passed away on Tuesday February 21, 2023 at Munson Healthcare-Grayling Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Marlin was born on January 18, 1937 in Moline, Illinois to Alfred and Helen (Spaulding) Shull. He graduated from Reynolds High School. Marlin served in the US Navy. He was a tinsmith and retired from General Motors. Marlin was married on November 27, 1998 in Gatlinburg, TN to Arlene L. Bates. The couple moved to Houghton Lake 22 years ago from Grand Ledge. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and enjoyed golfing, fishing and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching his great grandchildren’s sports activities.

Marlin is survived by his children; Michael (Kimberly) Shull of Illinois, Peggy Ann Garcia of Maine and Charles (Teresa) Shull of Maine, step-children; George (Karen) Fillingham of Lansing, Gregory (Brenda) Fillingham of Dimondale and Carl (Kimberly) Fillingham of Texas, several grandchildren; special recognition to Ryan (Staci) and Justin Fillingham, and several great grandchildren, sister; Sylvia (Larry) Gross of Illinois and three nieces & their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; Arlene Shull and granddaughter Kori Fillingham.

A Memorial Service is scheduled at 11 am on Monday February 27, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul Kruse officiating. The family will greet friends at the church on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. In-lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church.
