Marilyn Fick, 86, of Grayling

Marilyn D. Fick, 86, of Grayling passed away on January 27, 2023, in Bowling Green, KY.

Marilyn Daneen LaGuire was born in Flint, Michigan on August 1, 1936, to Merrill C. and Elsie (Anderson) LaGuire.  She married Charles F. Fick on May 21, 1955, and they shared 65 years together.  Marilyn moved with her husband and young family to Grayling, MI, in 1964. Together, they raised four children and Marilyn’s youngest brother, David LaGuire.

Marilyn utilized her customer service and bookkeeping skills in the early years of the family’s home-heating fuel business.  Eventually, her tasks were bent toward being a full time homemaker; planning and cooking delicious meals; baking a variety of sweet recipes she found in catalogs and testing them on her family, friends, company employees, and at many church and school events.  She was a member of the Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church.  Marilyn enjoyed time with her family, summer days at their cottage on Lake Margrethe, and many winter months relaxing at Fairway Village in Largo, Florida.  Visiting Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island were also special to her.

Marilyn is survived by her four children:  Steven (Lynn) Fick of Kalkaska, MI;  Scott (Jennifer) Fick of Tecumseh, MI;  Shelley Norman of Grayling, MI; and Stephanie Payne of Hartford, WI.  She is also survived by seven grandchildren:  Angeanette (Stephen) Stephano, Jonathon Lovely, Tyler Fick, Allie (Chris) Hoeft, Parker (fiance’ Jessica Garcia) Fick, Allison Coleman, and Tracy (Travis) Brush.  Her ten great-grandchildren:  Kylie Stephano, Jackson Stephano, Joseph Zelek Jr., Layla Stephano, Aviana Stephano, Chiara Stephano, Scarlett Hoeft, Madelyn Brush, Levi Brush, and Cooper Brush.  Marilyn is also survived by her brother, David (Debbie) LaGuire of Traverse City, MI; her brother-in-law Jack (Judy) Fick of Swartz Creek, MI; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; her brother, Carl LaGuire; and granddaughter, Dori Lovely.

A graveside service will be planned at a later date.  Anyone wishing to make a memorial donation, please consider: The Crawford County Historical Society Museum, PO Box 218, Grayling, MI 49738.  Thank you.
