Jim Fredlund, 94, of Grayling

Donald “Jim” James Fredlund, 94, of Grayling, MI passed away to his Heavenly home on January 23, 2023.

Jim was born to Lawrence and Gladys (Sleeman) Fredlund in South Range, MI on August 8, 1928. Jim worked for 24 years as an air traffic controller for the United States Air Force until his retirement January 31, 1970. He then worked as Vice President at Alpena Savings Bank until his retirement October 1, 1983.

Jim was married to his first wife Barbara Fredlund until her passing in May of 2000. He then married Lockey Hollingsworth (Griswold) on March 29, 2001 who he spent his remaining years with. Together, they traveled and shared 22 years together. In Jim’s spare time, he enjoyed stream fishing and would volunteer for every event he could.

Jim was born and raised in the Methodist Church. He was a long time member of 1st United Methodist Church of Alpena, MI and Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church of Grayling, MI.

Jim was past Master and life member of the Masonic Lodge #356 Grayling, MI, the Bay City Consistory Bay City, MI, a past Worthy Patron of Order of the Eastern Star Grayling, MI, and past Watchman of Shepherds and member of White Shrine of Jerusalem Houghton Lake, MI. Jim was also a life member of the Shriners. With the Shriners, Jim would volunteer to take disabled children from northern Michigan to  Chicago Shriners Children’s Hospital and bring them back.

Jim is survived by his wife, Lockey Fredlund; children Sherry (John) Green, Don (Mei-lan) Fredlund, Tom (Lynne) Fredlund, and Kim (Donie Lang) Fredlund ; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and brother, Victor Fredlund. Jim is preceded in death by siblings, Robert Fredlund, Lawrence Fredlund, Alice Stark, and Vernon Fredlund; and granddaughter Whitney Fredlund.

Visitation will take place at Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church in Grayling, MI on Monday, January 30, 2023, 10-11 am until the time of funeral services at 11:00 am with pastor Anita Hahn officiating. A luncheon will follow funeral services.
